Smokers are twice as likely to quit with the aid of Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) and counselling than through will power alone. Our smoking cessation programme covers an initial 4 week course that only costs a single prescription charge (currently £9.35). This covers all the quit smoking products needed during the eight week programme. Persons exempt from prescription charges receive this service free of charge.

Initially a simple form needs to be completed and the person's carbon monoxide levels are assessed. Staff provide guidance and support to help kick the habit. Where necessary, suitable NRT products are selected.

Treatments include patches, gum, lozenges, spray or microtab. The most suitable product(s) will be chosen during the initial consultation and may be changed according to response.

Patients usually come in weekly for a quick progress check and to replenish their NRT supplies.
